Welcome & Namaste!

CHALO INDIA, the Indian film festival in Muenster (Germany), enters its second year and will entertain its audience from 24th til 26th of April with a varied film and side programme (including dance events, workshops, talks and a festival party), which is not ready yet. Last year the organizers had a special treat for German and NRI fans of Indian cinema: Anurag Kashyap did attend the festival opening in person to present his film UGLY!

Germany has developed a taste for Indian cinema when Shah Rukh Khan's movies became popular a decade ago. Only recently though Mumbai's independent scene has made inroads into German cinema halls as a German dubbed version of The Lunchbox became a surprise hit in the arthouse circuit and ran for weeks.

Julia Wessel who has been editing ISHQ, a popular German magazine on Bollywood for years, has carefully selected films which will appeal to her readers. Apart from UGLY last year's film programme included the current hitfilm QUEEN, the visually stunning love story LOOTERA, thought provoking KAI PO CHE and to give people a taste of pure fun-filled Bollywood entertainment Muenster's cinegoers were treated to YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI in a German dubbed version. The film selection was completed by three documentaries which stand out for not just being informative but also extremely compelling to watch: GULABI GANG, FAITH CONNECTIONS and THE WORLD BEFORE HER.

The festival is supported by the Cultural Department of Muenster, Incredible India!, the Consulate General of India (Frankfurt) and local contributors.
